In January, the internet giant Google announced that they would phase out support of Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), starting with their applications “Google Docs” and “Google Sites” and as a result some features of these applications will no longer work with the browser.  Microsoft will continue to support IE6 but urges users to upgrade whereas Google will end all support to IE6 officially on 4th March 2010 – TODAY!
The web has evolved in the last ten years, from simple text pages to rich, interactive applications including video and voice. Unfortunately, very old browsers cannot run many of these new features effectively. So to help ensure your business can use the latest, most advanced web apps, we encourage you to update your browsers as soon as possible”

According to StatCounter, IE6 accounts for around 20% of the browser market but has suffered a number of attacks in recent years from web developer campaigns such as www.bringdownie6.com to more formal petitions on the governments Number 10 website.
If you are supporting devices running IE6 and the decision has been taken to upgrade to another browser, the process can be automated with CentraStage.

Education Bradford, a Serco-run team that supports ICT in Bradford schools, having run CentraStage for over 12 months has recently calculated some compelling return on investment statistics. Using an ROI tool provided by CentraStage, Bradford has calculated annual cost savings of over £55k and a 20% efficiency gain in Year 1; in addition, they calculate over 2500 hours of school ICT ‘downtime’ has been avoided. Without CentraStage, the LA has calculated it would need 2.5 more staff members to complete all tasks in the same time; with the current squeeze on Public Sector finances, CentraStage is helping Bradford deliver better services to their customers, with their existing resources.

Compelling statistics – watch this space for more to come.
